Challah French Toast Recipe

Texture: fluffy, soft.
Taste: sweet with vanilla flavor and fresh fruits.
Simplicity: quick to make, slice challah bread, dip in egg mixture and cook.
Meal Type: breakfast and brunch.

What do you eat with Dairy Free French Toast

  • Choose any fresh fruits. For instance, fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, banana, kiwi, pear etc.
  • Top it with preserves, jams or compote. This Orange Strawberry Jam will be yummy on the bread.
  • Also, you can spread with peanut butter, almond butter or sunflower butter.
  • Drizzle with maple syrup or honey.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon, shaved dark chocolate or coconut flakes.

Topped with grapes and mango cooked slices of bread.

How to make Challah French Toast

  1. (Full recipe and video below). Firstly, prepare all ingredients. Eggs, coconut milk, vanilla extract, sugar, 8 slices of challah bread and unsalted butter.
  2. Secondly, make a mixture by whisking eggs. Add plant milk, vanilla and sugar.
  3. Thirdly, dip each slice of challah into the mixture, both sides. In addition, melt butter on the frying pan.
  4. Fry challah slices on each side for 2 – 5 minutes.

Step by step on how to make no milk challah bread slices.

Dairy Free Toast Tips

  • Instead of cow’s milk you can use plant based milk. For instance, substitute with coconut milk, almond milk, rice milk, soy milk or oat milk.
  • Make sure to dip each side of Challah bread into the mixture completely.
  • Also, fry few slices of the bread in batches. It depends how big is your frying pan. You can fit 3 or more. Add more butter for frying if necessary.

No Milk French Toast Faq’s

What can I substitute with milk? You can use any plant based milk or a little bit of water, but I don’t really recommend water since the taste might be different. The other option is to just omit milk, only use eggs, sugar and vanilla extract, it will work perfectly. However, keep in mind that you will need more eggs for 8 slices of challah bread.

What can you put on french toast if you don’t have syrup? You can add some honey, any jam or sprinkle with powdered or regular sugar.

How long should you soak French toast? Simply just dip each piece of the bread, so it is covered with batter completely, then flip on other side. If you soak longer the bread will soak the batter making the toast more fluffy, but you won’t have enough dipping mixture for other slices. Approximately 10 to 15 seconds is enough to dip each side of bread.

I’ve never tried french toast with coconut milk, but I’m clearly missing out. This sounds delicious! I love the flavor coconut milk adds. This will be perfect for Easter brunch.
