Apple Fritters with Candy Corn Sauce

Fried fluffy apple fritters with homemade candy corn sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 cups apples chopped
  • 2 cups oil
  • 1/2 cup candy corn
  • 1 Tbsp. water

Instructions

  • In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder and cinnamon, set aside.

  • In a large bowl whisk eggs with milk and vanilla extract.

  • Add dry ingredients to wet, mix with spatula.
  • Add chopped apples, mix all ingredients together until well combined with spatula or spoon, don't over mix.

  • Preheat frying pan with oil, you can use candy thermometer if you have one until it reaches 360 F/365 F temperature. Otherwise, heat the oil until hot.

  • Remove from the pan once fully fried.
  • Drop about 1/4 cup of the batter to the oil, fry for about 2-3 minutes. Flip and fry for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Add candy corn and water to the saucepan, cook on low-medium heat for 2-4 minutes, whisk all the time until candy corn will dissolve. Pour the sauce over fritters.

Notes

  • You might need more than 2 cups of oil, it depends how big is your frying pan.
  • You can use candy thermometer to fry your fritters, just heat oil until the temperature reads 360 F/365 F. Otherwise if you don't have thermometer heat oil until it is hot.
  • Candy corn sauce might be sticky. This will depend on few factors. If you store fritters in hot humid condition, the glaze will be more watery. If you store fritters in colder environment, the glaze will be harder.
  • What apples to use? You can use any that you have, however keep in mind that some apples might be mushy after frying. If you would like firm friedcake pick: Granny Smith, Gala, Honeycrisp, Red Delicious etc.
