Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups pickles sliced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp. salt optional
  • 1/8 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (use more if needed)

Instructions

  • Pat dry sliced pickles with paper towel.
    1 1/4 cups pickles
  • In a large bowl combine flour with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and black pepper, then mix.
1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 tsp. garlic powder, 1/4 tsp. onion powder, 1/8 tsp. salt, 1/8 tsp. black pepper
  • Add water and mix well to make a batter.
    1/2 cup water
  • Heat 1 cup of oil in frying pan. You might need more oil for deep frying, just remember pickles need to be immersed fully into the oil.
    1 cup vegetable oil
  • Once the oil is hot, dip each pickle into flour mixture and deep fry for 3-5 minutes on each side.

Notes

  • It’s important to note that you don’t have to add salt to the batter since pickles are naturally very salty themselves. The brine in which the pickles are preserved contains enough salt to season them. However, if you feel that the batter is lacking salt, you can add a small amount to enhance the flavor. Just remember to do a taste test before adding any additional salt.
  • Using a shallow, large, deep-frying pan is the best way to fry pickles. The reason for this is that pickles are generally quite small in size, and by using a large pan, you can easily submerge multiple slices of pickles in the oil at once. This allows for more efficient frying and ensures that the pickles cook evenly.
  • The recipe calls for 1 and 1/4 cups of sliced pickle, if you have extra batter left, add few more slices to use up the batter. This way, you can make the most of your ingredients and avoid any waste.
  • What to serve it with? It tastes the best with Remoulade Sauce.
