Beet detox smoothie with 4 simple ingredients great for morning or mid afternoon snack, made with cooked beets. Beetroot smoothie is one of the healthiest smoothies with lots of minerals and nutrients.

Healthy beetroot smoothie with blueberries, strawberries, banana na beet by ilonaspassion.com I @ilonaspassion

Originally, I created this beet detox smoothie in 2015 but I’ve decided to refresh photos since it is one of the most popular recipe on the blog. Beets are huge part of my diet. The reason for that is I grew up eating lots of beet soups and salads.

Did you know that beets are very low in calories? However, they are packed with so many minerals and vitamins including Vitamin C, B6, folate, magnesium, potassium, iron and manganese. Beets help to lower blood pressure, fight with inflammation and improve digestion. Also, beets help your body detox and lose weight.

How beets will detoxify your body? It all happens in the liver when phytonutrients called betalains help to detoxify and remove the toxins from the body.

Beet Smoothie Recipe

Texture: smooth.
Taste: sweet with beetroot flavor.
Simplicity: quick to prepare, just blend all ingredients.
Meal Type: breakfast, drink, smoothie.

Ingredients Needed

Banana, blueberries, beet, strawberries.
  • Beet – cooked or uncooked.
  • Strawberries – fresh are perfect, they can be substituted for raspberries.
  • Blueberries – fresh are the best.
  • Banana – it is optional, but adds extra sweetness to the smoothie.
  • Water – to blend well everything nicely.

How to make Beet Detox Smoothie

  1. (Video and exact recipe below). The beet can be cooked for 20-30 minutes to make it softer and blend it better.
  2. In the blender, add cooked beet with remaining water, strawberries, blueberries and banana. Blend and drink it:)

Tips to make Beetroot Smoothie

  • It is not necessary to cook the beet, however I found it easier to blend. The beet is softer.
  • Don’t drain the water from cooked beet. Use it in the smoothie! It contains flavor and nutrients.
  • Add more water if the beetroot smoothie will become thick.
  • I used my favorite Ninja Blender for this smoothie, and this Mega System Blender works great too. It blends fruits and vegetables smoothly. I use my blender daily for smoothies.
  • SUBSTITUTIONS: Instead of blueberries or strawberries, raspberries can be used in this smoothie. The banana is optional.

Beetroot Detox Smoothie Faq’s

What fruit and veggie go well with beets?

Lots of fruits and veggies go well together with beets including berries, banana, apple, pear, citrus fruits, carrots, kale, spinach etc.

Can I freeze beets for smoothies?

Yes, you can freeze beets for smoothies. Firstly, lay nicely sliced pieces on parchment paper or plate and freeze separately to prevent sticking beets to themselves. Then store them in the bag or container in the freezer.

Do I need to peel beets for smoothies?

No, you don’t have to, the peel contains more nutrients but it is ok to peel for this beet detox smoothie.

Beets are such a great source of iron and are a blood purifier. We eat them regularly in our next of the woods.

My mother just to give me a lot of beet juice mixed with carrot and orange juice, or blended with milk, since I was a child for breakfast and I loved it, bt let me tell you…mi mother and I never cook it or boiled unless it was for a “Red Salad” (Beets, red potatoes, cilantro and mayonnaise) bcs it has to be soft. If you cook it, you’ll take away all the good properties and vitamins for the juice. Now I make my own “Red juice” (Beets, red apple, blueberry, strawberries, banana and Chía seeds, honey & water)let it rest for 15 min and enjoy it, but only in the morning as a antioxidant and detox. And for lunch “The Green Juice”(Celery, spinach or kale, green apple, avocado, broccoli, banana, oatmeal or Chía seed honey & water) this one will give you all the fiber, energy and vitamins you need. You can take either one of this after a workout but must add egg whites, almond butter, banana @ oatmeal to recover the energy and give the protein to gain muscle…You’ll love it!!

I’ve never done with canned beets, but I am pretty sure you can use them, unless they are salted, I wouldn’t use salted beets since I don’t want to drink salted smoothie, but if there are only beets in a can, yes I think they will work great.
