Creamy Sweet Potato Puree FAQ’s

Is it better to peel sweet potatoes before boiling?

You don’t have to peel the sweet potatoes if you don’t want to, leaving the skins on is perfectly fine. Keep in mind, however, that unpeeled potatoes may take a few extra minutes to cook until soft. The skins add extra fiber and nutrients, but if you prefer a creamier, smoother mash, peeling the potatoes before cooking is recommended. Either way, the choice is yours, and both methods result in a delicious dish.

Why is my sweet potato mash watery?

Make sure to drain all the water completely before mashing the sweet potatoes. Any remaining water can make the mash watery and prevent it from reaching a smooth, creamy texture. For best results, let the potatoes sit in the colander for a minute or two to allow excess moisture to evaporate, then proceed to mash them with butter, salt, and any other ingredients you like.

Can you boil sweet potatoes ahead of time?

Yes you can, they are great for meal prep, just store them in airtight (preferably) glass container for up to 4-5 days, reheat on the stove or in microwave.

How do you know when sweet potatoes are done boiling?

Simply check the sweet potatoes with a fork to see if they are tender and cooked through. If the fork slides in easily into potatoes they are ready to be drained and mashed. If not, continue cooking for a few more minutes, checking occasionally, until the potatoes are soft and perfect for mashing.

What to serve with Sweet Potato Puree?

You can serve with any meat or fish and with extra salad on the side. Try it with Swedish Meatballs, Oven Baked Basa Fillets or make it vegetarian and serve it with Creamy Mushroom Sauce and No Mayo Easy Broccoli Salad.
